Physical Disabilities and Other Health Orders
IDEA's definition of physical disability, also termed as "orthopedic impairment" is one that adversely affects a child's educational performance. The term includes impairments caused by disease and impairments from other causes.
IDEA defines "other health impairments" as: a student's health condition that limit his/her strength, vitality, or alertness to such a degree that the student's educational progress is adversely affected. The word "other" distinguishes these conditions from physical disabilities, multiple disabilities and traumatic brain injury puts these in their own category.
